Obituary

Viola Lois Hawkins, 89, of Papillion formerly Beatrice died Tuesday, April 25, 2017.  She was born July 8, 1927 at rural Carleton and attended Harmony Country School near Ohiowa, Nebraska.  She was married to Glen Hawkins on July 1, 1944 at Greenville, Mississippi.  They lived and farmed near Hebron before moving to Beatrice in 1959.  She worked as a cook at the Beatrice Mennonite Hospital for over 20 years.  She was a member of the Foster Grandparent Program both at Beatrice and at Offutt Air Force Base.  She was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Gilead and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Beatrice.  She enjoyed country music and gardening.

 

            Survivors include three sons, Bob Hawkins of Lincoln, Lonnie Hawkins of San Diego, California and Gary Hawkins of Beatrice; one daughter, Debra Rinner and husband Rick of LaVista; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Dittmer and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Malinda Kappmeyer Dittmer; her husband Glen, who died June 10, 1984; one son, David; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hawkins; one granddaughter, Tiffany Hawkins; three sisters, Myrtle Waterman, Mabel Garrison and one who died in infancy; four brothers, Clifford, Willard, Homer Dittmer and one who died in infancy and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Rauner.

 

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice.  Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at Fox Funeral Home on Friday from 8:00 A.M. to time of service with the family greeting family and friends that morning  from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M..   Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.  A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net.    Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
