Obituary

Robert Dean Baehr, 82, of Beatrice died at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, February 10, 2017. He was born November 26, 1934 at Beatrice. He was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran, Filley, NE. He graduated from Virginia High School and attended University of Nebraska, Lincoln for one year, where he played freshman football. He served in the United States Marine Corp. from 1957 – 1959. He married LaVonna J. Hinz on November 27, 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice. They made their home on the family farm in rural Virginia, NE.  Bob loved farming and sold NC+ Hybrids, (now Channel Seed Company) since the early 1970’s. He was a member of American Lutheran Church of Filley where he had been a youth group sponsor and President of the Church Council. Bob was a family man who enjoyed his children, grandchildren and spending time on the farm.  Bob spent many days socializing with his Marine buddies, fellow farmers and friends at the American Legion in Beatrice. Bob also enjoyed spending warm days in the sun and on those warm days you could find him in his driveway reading a good book. 

 

            Survivors include his wife of 59 years, LaVonna of Beatrice; three sons, Steven Baehr and wife Tiffany of Omaha, Michael Baehr and wife Traci of rural Beatrice, Bradley Baehr and wife Kelly of Lincoln; one daughter, Michelle Mayfield and husband Mike of Beatrice.  Bob and LaVonna were blessed with 11 grandchildren, Zachary Baehr, Travis, Tanner and Taylor Baehr, Erik and Ian Baehr, MaKena and Kai Mayfield, Jamie Rudder, Stephanie (Tim) Crocker and Ryan Hunt; one sister, Janice Grube of Ft. Myers, FL; four brothers-in-law, Robert Pease Sr. and Joseph Diersing both of Ft. Myers, FL. Harold (JoAnne) Hinz of Imogene, IA and Calvin (Laurie) Hinz of Omaha, NE; two aunts, Hattie Schuster and Grace Huttenmeier of Beatrice, many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Lienemann Baehr, two sisters, Rosalie J. Diersing and Janet R. Pease; one brother-in-law, Lee Grube; one nephew, Jeff Grube and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Daniel and Emma (Holz) Hinz.

 

            Memorial services will be held Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the American Lutheran Church of Filley with Pastor LuRae Hallstrom officiating. Inurnment will be at 10:00 A.M. at Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.  Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice with Ervin Huls and Ron Weiss in charge. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corp and Fisher Post #367 of the American Legion of Virginia.  A guestbook for signatures will be available from 8:00 A.M. Wednesday to 9:00 P.M. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home where the family will receive visitors from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
