Obituary

Larry G. Eckert, 66, of Lincoln died in a Lincoln hospital on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.  He was born December 1, 1950 at Tecumseh and graduated from Sterling High School in 1970.  He served in the United States Army in Germany from 1971 to 1972 and was a sharp shooter and grenade expert.  He attended SCC Milford where he studied machine tool.  He worked at Square D Company which is now Schneider Electric of Lincoln and was the lead man in the tool room.  He had received several PWMD awards for production improvement.  He enjoyed farming, racing cars and motorcycles, fishing and hunting.

 

            Survivors include his wife, Janet; one daughter, Michelle Eckert; two grandsons, Joshua and Declan Eckert; one brother, Richard (Betty) Eckert; one sister, Mary Bothe and husband Ralph; step-children, David Baldwin, Tracy (Daryl) Poppe, Laura (Josh) Stutzman; step-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Lexi, Brynn and Emmalee; two aunts, Norma Bray and Alberta Bogema; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lucy (Dick) Bennett, Barb (Dan) Liska, Henry (Barb)  Masek, Janice Fellows, Ramona (Mick) Neukirk and Gwen Wasser; his beloved pet, Blazer"; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Alma M. Bray Eckert; brother, Eldon Eckert and wife Marilyn; grandparents; uncle, Leonard Bray; former parents-in-law, Virgil and Shirley Oldemeyer; brother-in-law, Lynn Fellows.

 

            Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling with Pastor Steve Chellew and Chaplain Abby Henre officiating.  Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery of Sterling.  A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. at the church on Monday.  Military graveside honors will be conducted by Harm Sangen Post #140 of Sterling.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department with Shannon and Erma Hazen in charge.  The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling from 12:00 noon until 8:00 P.M. Sunday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Monday.  The family will meet and greet friends and relatives at the funeral home on Sunday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  www.foxfuneralhome.net.  Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling in charge of arrangements.

Larry was my leader in the tool room and one of best Toolmakers I have & will ever work with or know. It was also my pleasure to call Larry a friend & it has been my reward for having him as a friend. My life is better for knowing Larry Eckert. Rest In Peace my good friend. You will be sorely missed.

I met Larry through Square D many year's ago doing Mold Polishing with my company W.D. Mold Finishing.
Larry was a great guy to deal with, my Father Walter liked talking with Larry about jobs we were doing for Sq D.
He will be missed.
My condolences to the family.

I met Larry in about 1972, and worked with him at Square D until 1987. A good friend, and good guy. He will be deeply missed.
