Gerald L. Wehrbein
Gerald L. Wehrbein, 82, of Beatrice died in a Lincoln hospital on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. He was born July 14, 1934 at rural Burchard and attended Tranquility Country School and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1952. He then attended Dana College. During the Korean Conflict, he served from 1954 to 1956. He married Carol Jean Lovitt on January 17, 1958 at Steinauer and they lived and farmed near Burchard and Filley before moving to Lincoln where he was an auditor for the USDA. He retired in 1990 and they moved to Beatrice in 1994. He attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, hunting and fishing, landscaping and was a member of Bitting-Norman Post #27 of Beatrice.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Jean (CJ) of Beatrice; one daughter, Judith Weyers and special friend Duane Landon of Beatrice; one son, Howard Wehrbein of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Jill Sasse and husband Brian, Craig Weyers and wife Ashley, Brian Weyers and wife Chanae and Amy Heideman; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, David Wehrbein of Burchard; one sister, Sharon Lambert of Pawnee City; one sister-in-law, Kay Wehrbein of Burchard; one brother-in-law, Dave Miles of Lewiston; his pet dog, Candi; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Gertrude Schuetz Wehrbein; one brother, Duane Wehrbein; two sisters, Geraldine Miles and Marilyn Wehrbein.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor LuRae Hallstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Lewiston Cemetery of Lewiston. A family prayer service will be held at 9:30 A.M. at the church on Saturday. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Bitting-Norman Post #27 of Beatrice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 12:00 noon Thursday until 9:00 P.M. Friday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday.
