Obituary

Calvin G. Novotny, 96, of Fairbury, formerly of Beatrice, died Saturday night, May 27, 2017 at Gardenside Nursing Home in Fairbury.  He was born on May 13, 1921 at rural Diller and graduated from Diller High School in 1937.  He served in the Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed in the South Pacific as a radio operator.  On August 26, 1946 he married Peggy Wake at Marysville, Kansas.   They lived on a farm by Diller where he farmed with his father.  In 1949 they moved to a farm between Diller and Steele City.   They moved to Beatrice in 1971 and he worked as a plumber for BSDC until retiring in 1984.  Later they moved to Fairbury.  He was a member of the Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the Beatrice American Legion, Geddes-Thober Post #1077 of the Beatrice VFW, and was baptized in the Methodist Church in Diller.  He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching baseball, traveling, camping, fishing, bowling and riding his motorcycle. 

 

                Survivors include his wife, Peggy of Fairbury; two sons, Joe Novotny and wife Vickie of Johnson and Don Novotny and wife Ronelda of Fairbury; four grandchildren, Jerrod Novotny and wife Tracie, Jon Novotny and wife Rhonda, Krista Makovicka and husband Mark, and Troy Notvotny; great-grandchildren, Falisatey, Samantha, Faith, Tanner, Austin and Andrew Novotny, Alex and Nolan Makovicka; three sisters, Eleanor Michaels of Delhi, IA, and Betty McCown, and Faye Fox both of Lincoln;  several nieces and nephews.    He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph George and Lydia Freough Novotny, and daughter-in-law, Sue Novotny.

 

                Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Pastor Darlene Novotny officiating.  Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.  Military graveside rites will be conducted by Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the Beatrice American Legion.  A memorial has been established to the family’s choice.  The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from Tuesday noon until service time on Thursday.   www.foxfuneralhome.net.   Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.
